A guide for Ahmedabad office-goers
A simple guide for vegetarians
A healthy office lunch is mostly vegetables, with a good veg protein like dal, chana or paneer, some whole grains, and not much oil, salt or sugar. Here's how to put one together from home, the canteen or an app, and how to keep it up on busy weeks.

The short version
Harvard's Healthy Eating Plateis an easy way to build any meal, and it fits a Gujarati lunch well. You don't need to weigh anything. Just look at the plate or the tiffin.
The WHO suggests at least 400 g of fruit and vegetables a day, so a lunch that's half vegetables gets you a good part of the way. Sources: Harvard Healthy Eating Plate, WHO healthy diet.
Leaves and raw vegetables are light on protein. The easy fix is a pulse or paneer.
You can see it in our own bowls. The ones built on paneer, tofu, chana or rajma have 3 to 4 times the protein of our lightest bowl, which has no pulse or paneer.
286 to 354 kcal per bowl. Full numbers for each bowl are on the menu.
Eating well once is easy. These make it the default.
Plan the week on Sunday night, so a busy Tuesday doesn't end with a samosa.
Add it just before you eat. The salad stays crisp instead of going soggy.
Cut salad shouldn't sit warm on a desk all afternoon.
The WHO advises keeping free sugars under 10% of the day's energy, about 12 teaspoons.

It can help if it replaces a heavier, fried lunch, but your weight depends on everything you eat and do in a day. We don't make medical claims. For a plan that suits you, talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian.
Eat it within 2 hours of delivery. If lunch is going to be later than that, keep it in the office fridge.
